Peeping Tom - Vader

Oct 5, 2018 - Oct 7, 2018
Venue:National Theater (No.21-1, Zhongshan S. Rd.)

In the trend of cross-boundary performing arts in Belgium, Peeping Tom is one of the most unique companies. Artistic Directors Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier first met at les ballet C de la B, and jointly founded Peeping Tom in 2000, which soon became well-known in the theatre circle of continental Europe.
Based on details in daily lives, Peeping Tom develops hyperrealistic narrative and aesthetics. With concrete sets and characters on the stage and extremely distorted physical movements, the directors create an unstable universe that defies the logic of time and space, leading an unconscious world of nightmares, fears and desires as metaphors of all circumstances and sentiments in real lives.
Vader, meaning “father,” is the first episode of the company's family trilogy. The show is set at a nursing home for the elderly. The old people on the stage are gradually decaying both physically and mentally, and there appear gaps and crevices between their perception and the reality. Only in memories or when reflecting is the world meaningful to them. As a result, the fragments of lives in decay are no longer full of solitude and loneliness, but instead transformed into the moments of fantasies and imaginations.
