Venue:National Concert Hall

A Legendary Jazz Pianist for 60 Years

Winner of the 2011 NEA Jazz Master Award—the highest honor in jazz music—Ellis Marsalis, head of the Marsalis family, the legendary first family in the jazz world, has been active since 1950s. In addition to performing and composing, Ellis Marsalis is also one of the most renowned music educators, who has not only trained his sons, but also instructed many of the contemporary musicians, and thus becomes a great influence in the jazz world.

Rarely has anyone else witnessed the 60 years' history of jazz music like the Master! Ellis Marsalis has internalized and successfully mastered all types of styles in jazz music. Be it blues, traditional New Orleans Beppo, or classic ballade, the Master can always present performances with precise controlled power. His impromptu music languages are simple yet ear-catching. No matter it is slow ballade or fast Beppo, his music, sometimes powerful yet sometimes quiet, is always full of rhythms, which you are unable to resist swinging along with!
